Proposed Ban on Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers in Baltimore Advances

A bill to ban gas-powered leaf blowers in Baltimore City is moving forward.

The bill now moves out of committee and to the full city council where Councilman Ryan Dorsey says it has the support of the mayor and others.

Dorsey said the gas-powered leaf blowers are pollution generation machines “that literally do nothing but partially burn fuel and turn the unburnt portion of the fuel into air pollution.”

He also said that the machines “directly sprays into our atmosphere, causing health problems and thus noise pollution that disrupts peoples’ basic quality of life in the process.”

Fines would be a civil penalty and would be enforced through several agencies to issue a citation.

The law would apply to people who live in the city, as well as private contractors and the city as well.
